Route 11 and 15 is a busy highway that began in 1926 and runs the length of the Susquehanna River around Harrisburg, PA.
It is now a heavily traveled route for trucks and cars. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation needed to replace two sixty inch and two fifty-four inch storm water CMP that pass under this highway. The deteriorated pipe represented a logistical nightmare with the volume of heavy traffic. The options that Penn DOT had were to shut down the highway, excavate, divert traffic, and risk damaging the surrounding historical sites, or to evaluate a trenchless repair utilizing Spraywall manufactured by Sprayroq. Abel Recon, a Sprayroq certified partner, supplied samples, created mock ups using CMP, and discussed the process. Penn DOT selected Abel Recon to rehabilitate the CMP with a structural design utilizing the ASTM F1216 specifications. Abel Recon met with the PA Department of the Environment, gained their approval, started, and finished the project in just two weeks. The completed project did not interrupt traffic or any historical sites. The environment was not affected, as it would have been using traditional methods of open cutting. The rehabilitated pipes are now ready to provide decades of renewed service for future generations.
